Q: How does a toyota matrix factory warranty work?
I purchased the car from a used dealership, but it still has Factory Warranty. The engine light is on and was told by the dealership that I could take it to my local Toyota Dealership to get serviced since it still had warranty, how does this work? ( its an 07 matrix)
A: Take the car to a Toyota dealership service department of your choice. They will put your serial number in the computer and can can tell you if the repair is to be done under warranty or could be your expense subject to what is needed to make the correction.
Q: How to change transmission fluid in Toyota Matrix?
I want to change the transmission fluid in my ‘05 Toyota Matrix. Is there a filter to replace too? Ok, so I unscrew the drain plug and drain the old fluid. When I refill with new fluid, can I pour it into the tranny dipstick hole, or do I have to pump it into the fill hole underneath the car? Thanks!
A: there is no filter to replace. yes… drain the fluid through the drain plug and fill it through the dipstick tube. MAKE SURE YOU USE ONLY TOYOTA TRANSMISSION FLUID. it’s called ” type T-IV”. don’t use anything else. it may cause shifting problems later on.
what you are doing is called a “drain and fill”, this should not take more than 4 quarts of fluid.
make sure to check the level with the engine running, in park and the fluid must be hot.

Q: How do you change the passenger airbag on a Toyota Matrix?
We have a toyota Matrix 07 and there is light up thing that says passenger airbag on or off it doesn’t have a key hole or anything that we can find to change it i know it makes me sound kind of dumb by asking the question but if you know please let me know thanks!
A: If there’s not an adult sitting in the front passenger seat, the bag usually is off, in case there’s a baby seat or child there. If the light goes off when there’s an adult sitting there, there’s a fault, but if there is an adult there, it should be on.
Q: How much should it cost to replace the engine of a 2003 Toyota Matrix?
The engine of my 2003 toyota matrix is not working and not reparable. It needs to be completely replaced. How much should this cost (roughly)? I am unsure as to whether to get the car fixed or just sell it and start over with something new!

A: That engine is basically bullet proof… How did it break?? The only way it would die is that no one changed the oil or ran the car with no oil for awhile… I assume a rod broke, or the engine seized??
In anycase it would be cheaper to rebuild it…only if it did not suffer internal engine damage… Otherwise you are looking at over 3 or 4 grand for a low milage engine.
If the engine suffered internal damage due to neglect then a rebuild would have to be done by a very reputable, and experienced shop. Otherwise it would be wiser to just replace the engine.
You can start with something new…but I would say maintain whatever you buy properly.

A: Try this. Open your favorite Internet search page. Search for “Toyota Sludge” without the quotes. You will quickly discover the the engine used in this car is a POS. Stay away.

I’m shopping for a toyota matrix but can’t decide on the year I want. I’m leaning towards the 2003 body and am sure I can find one with low miles…but then I like the 2006 model too. Suggestions? Which do you recommend best and why?
A: to me the 2003 model is the best so far! as far as looks go, it is curvier and sexier than the later edgy model years…and not to mention that if you consider an XRS model, 2003 was the most powerful of the bunch! i have a white 2003 matrix XRS with a 6spd….bought it with 42K miles, now has 111K miles…never been anywhere near a mechanic, all it has needed was the regular oil changes, which i do at home! i’ve driven it on many rode trips and it was amazing, averaging 37 MPG!!!
So i vote 2003……XR or XRS is up to you.
deference between the two is performance….so how much performance do you want? XR is 140 HP and the XRS is 184 in 03 and 164 in later models….and you must also keep in mind that the recommended fuel for an XRS is premium where the XR uses regular….you can use regular in the XRS you’ll just get a bit less power…i’ve always used premium though.
Q: Can I hook up a uhaul trailer to a 2005 toyota matrix?
I am planning a move from Houston to Los Angeles and would like to drive so I can bring some essential stuff with me. The movers will be taking everything else and that can take up to 2 weeks before delivery. Is it possible to hook up a small uhaul trailer to an ‘05 toyota matrix? I think it’s FWD, not sure.
A: Todays cars must have towing built in to the body. You will have to get a hitch kit installed unless you car was made to do so. As for U-haul, they can do it for you someplaces or recommend where you can. I don’t believe a Matrix is the best vehical for towing a trailer, unless it is small, 4′x 8′ approx.
For the price if it is a short move get a u-haul pickup truck or try budget for the same.
Q: How can I get informaiton about complaints on Toyota Matrix’s?
I bought a Toyota Matrix. The battery was dead a week later. I took the car back to the dealer and they told me to buy a bettery with more Cold cranking amps. I did and the car would not start again. So back to the dealer. They told me to buy yet another battery. It worked ok for about a week. Then while on vaction the battery is dead again. Does anyone know about electrical problems or shorts in the Matrix to cause this to keep happening?

A: Turn your ignition key on, any system like that will have an Icon that will light up when the ignition key is turned on, but not all the way to “start”.
You will see an “ABS” icon for anti lock brakes, etc, stability control is a similar computerized system and should have an icon as well.
Once the car is started, if all systems are well, the icons go out.

A: The Elantra is the better car. Your comparing Hyundai’s newest generation Elantra to Toyota’s previous generation Matrix. It has a stronger engine then the Matrix, 138 HP the Matrix’s 130 and it still gets better gas mileage, 35 MPG to the Matrix’s 33 MPG. In fact the Elantra was Consumer Reports top pick of small car’s tested http://www.motortrend.com/features/newswire/34677/index.html. The only real advantage the Matrix has is cargo room.
I have over 155,000 miles on Elantra so I would think the newer Elantra’s would be even better.

A: Both low-beam bulbs are a 9006. First you will need to pop the hood. Next, find the protective housing that covers the access to the bulb behind the assembly in the engine bay. It will be a black circle with little tabs coming out of it to grip with your hands. Turn this assembly counter-clockwise (as you look at it) and remove it. Next you will depress the small tab on the connector plugged into the headlight bulb. When this is depressed, pull the plug off of the bulb. Grip the bulb and turn it counter-clockwise to remove it. You MUST unplug the bulb before you can remove it or the tab will catch on the headlight assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal. Ensure that you plug the bulb in AFTER you’ve rotated it back in and don’t forget the weather covering. The driver’s side is the same, but you will either need someone with tiny hands and strong fingers or you will have to remove the battery. An alternate method is to remove the hold-down from the top of the battery (10mm socket) and tilt the battery back. The original connections on the battery are 10mm as well.

A: Yes but it would cost a fortune and you would need to be a Toyota tmechanic. You would have to purchase all the individual parts from the dealer and install without directions.
If you want one with side air bags keep shopping.
